The 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee (the “IAGOC”) was established as a legal entity on 8 November 2007, just 6 months after Incheon Metropolitan City won the right to stage the 17th Asian Games in 2014. The IAGOC was approved by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea and registered as a corporation at the Incheon District Court.

The IAGOC aims to deepen the friendship between, and to stimulate understanding among, the OCA member countries, and to contribute to the development of Asian sports and the furtherance of peace through the effective preparation of the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, 2014. Its business objectives are to prepare and stage the Games, including securing the necessary funding, to draw up and implement the master plan for the Games, to prepare, manage and secure infrastructure for the Games (including all sporting and support facilities), and to co-operate with Central and Local Government and with relevant domestic and international organisations.

As of July 2009, the IAGOC has 60 staff with the aim to eventually grow to 500 staff nearer to the opening of the Games. Its Secretariat offices comprise 3 headquarters (planning & operation HQ, culture & events HQ and business HQ), 7 departments and 16 teams.
