Ms Hyun-Jung brings with her to the world of sport more than 12 years of experience as a public relations and communications specialist. With a balanced background, taking in spells in both agency and in-house managerial positions, Hyun-Jung’s career includes becoming, in 2001, the youngest person, and the first woman, to have acquired an APR (Accreditation in Public Relations) by the Public Relations Society of America in Korea. She has also worked at one of the world’s largest Public Relations Consulting firms, Burson-Marsteller, at its Seoul office, where she provided a range of PR consulting services to multi-national companies such as British Airways, Schering AG, FedEx, Hyundai Group, LG Electronics, Citigroup, the Westin Hotel, Korean Beer Industry Association, Locate in Scotland, and Incheon International Airport, just to name a few.
After working at Burson-Marsteller’s client service department for 7 years, Hyun-Jung was recruited to an in-house Corporate Communications position in Citigroup’s investment banking arm, Salmon Smith Barney, as Head of Korea Corporate Communications. After 3 years at Citigroup setting up its corporate communications structure, she was recruited by the world’s leading fund manager, Fidelity Investment, as Head of Marketing when the firm set up its Korea office.

After working 13 years in various leading multi-national organisations, Hyun-Jung moved from the private to the public sector, joining the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Bidding Committee as Bureau Chief of the Seoul office in 2006. She played a key role in the intensive bidding campaign as one of the core members of the Bidding Committee for 2 years, ultimately being successful in bringing the 17th Asian Games to Incheon. She is a firm believer that “winning the heart of voters” is a key element in any bidding campaign. She has written a book called “ Asian Games Bidding Campaign” based on her own personal experiences.

Olympic Council of Asia
www.ocasia.org
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), formed in 1982 and operating from its permanent headquarters in Kuwait City, is the umbrella governing body which oversees each of the Olympic sports in Asia, and is one of the five continental associations recognised by the IOC. The main objective of the OCA is to promote and develop the values of sport, culture and education among the youth of Asia, as well as to promote international respect, friendship, goodwill and peace through sport.
The OCA manages and operates a number of different multi-sport Games, including its most prestigious event, the Asian Games, as well as the Asian Winter Games, the Asian Beach Games, the Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games and the Asian Youth Games. While the Asian Games focuses on many of the traditionally popular sports, a number of other increasingly popular sporting disciplines remain, for the time being, outside the Asian Games. In order to address this challenge, the OCA has developed innovative ideas to incorporate other non-traditional sports into the OCA calendar – including e-sports and extreme sports – a process which had led directly to the genesis of the Asian Winter Games and the Asian Beach Games, and one which offers a competitive platform for developing disciplines. |
