David joined Rouse in 2008 and is a senior UK and European Trade Mark Attorney.  David has significant experience providing advice and assistance with trade mark registration and enforcement, copyright, domain names and anti-ambush marketing strategies to the world’s premier sports federations and brand owners. Educated at the University of St. Andrews and the College of Law in London, David trained at a major firm of international patent and trade mark attorneys in London before moving to Switzerland to work in-house for ISL Worldwide and then FIFA.  After the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan, David returned to the UK to set up his own practice in the UK, continuing to advise FIFA and others, including managing UEFA’s rights protection programme for the UEFA EURO 2004 tournament in Portugal.

David currently advises FIFA on their rights protection programs for the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well as co-managing UEFA’s worldwide trade mark protection portfolio for all their brands and tournaments, including the highly successful UEFA Champions League.  David has advised the following sports rights owners and brands: Olympic Council of Asia (Asian Games), IAAF, Formula One Management Ltd, ARENA (swimwear), America’s Cup, FIBA, FINA, ATP (Tennis Masters Series).  David often speaks at IP conferences on ambush marketing (such as INTA and Marques) and is a guest lecturer at the CIES (University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland) on IP Rights and Sport.
